Phase IV Gate Communication Upgrade Coming October 31, 2023

Phase IV owners have long suffered with gate reliability issues. While there may be multiple problems that prevent the existing system from working reliably, the system’s reliance on the weak cellular signal in our neighborhood is a known culprit. When visitors and vendors are unable to call Phase IV residents to open the gate, it’s usually because the cellular signal is too weak for the system to work.

I’ve worked with Spectrum Business to have a free site survey done, and after confirming that they can provide service at the gate they offered to provide wired internet service and hybrid phone service (basically a telephone land line that works over the internet), backed up by the same AT&T cellular service we have now for times when the wired internet service goes out. The system includes a battery that keeps the system operating for 8 hours if power goes out. This system should significantly increase gate reliability and help us to identify any other issues that need to be addressed.

Best of all, this service upgrade will cost $12 LESS per month than we’re currently paying, with no installation fee and no cost to us for installing new cables and electrical enclosure for the new hardware.

The Board has approved this upgrade, and Spectrum is scheduled to install cables and outdoor electrical enclosure with cooling fan for the cable modem on October 18. Both Spectrum and Guardian will have technicians at the gate on October 31 to ensure a smooth transition between services. The gates will be open from 9am that morning until the service upgrade is complete, and I will be there to make sure everything works before the technicians leave.

Your existing gate codes, call box directory listings and remote controls will be unaffected by this upgrade, and will continue to work as usual.
