The cellular data communication system installed by ICI has been replaced with a more reliable cable internet and telephone service provided by Spectrum Communications.
Work was completed October 31, 2023.
Existing gate codes, directory entries and remote controls are unaffected by this upgrade and will continue to work. Programming requests (new entry codes and directory entries) should still be submitted to Specialty Management Company.
This upgrade won’t fix every problem with the gate, but phone calls and system programming (new access codes and directory entries) will be much more reliable. The worn-out backup batteries in the gate actuators were replaced today to ensure the gates work properly in the event of a power outage.
A cellular data backup system planned as a backup during Spectrum service outages could not be installed today, but we will continue to work on this. The plan is to install a directional cellular antenna aimed at a nearby cell tower to provide a backup that is more reliable than the old cellular service. Details will be provided when available.
Until the cellular backup system is installed, your remotes and codes will still open the gate during Spectrum service outages. Phone calls and programming changes will be unavailable until service is restored. This should, however, happen much less frequently than in the past.
Future gate plans include diagnosing why the gates sometimes remain open and determining what can be done to minimize this, and a gate electronics upgrade proposal for Phase IV owners to consider.
